Sam the Clam's Pub & Grub in Plantsville

Their food has gotten better in the last few years. They must have a really good chef. My wife and I love the fried sole. And yesterday I had the BEST chicken parmesian I can remember having. Yes, from a seafood place. And I know my chicken parmesian. I judge places based on whether they can make a good one. This one was incredible. I hope the chef stays around a long time.

The food was excellent! Prices were okay. Prepare to pay if you buy the fried whole belly clams, but they are totally worth it. We went for lunch, and they were busy but not packed. Staff was very attentive and helpful. My daughter ordered fried calamari, and it was definitely made in house. The rings we're boarding on too big, but it was extremely tasty.

Certainly a place worth trying, the food is awesome and well prepared, the costs are reasonable and it is always well kept there. Keep up the good work.

Pleasant service, fresh delicious fried platters. One lobster dish, however, was served with empty shells :( which they promptly replaced upon bringing it ti their attention.

This place is great! They have great seafood! We ordered the fried clams and they were so delicious. They have great prices. And they have a great selection of drinks.

I was in town for a working vacation kinda deal. A friend of the guy I'm seeing grew up in southington and highly recommended Sam the clams. We decided to split several appetizers. We got the clams casino and seafood stuffed mushrooms. We also tried to order the lobster bisque and cream cheese stuffed jalapenos but both were sold out for the night. Everything tasted great and I look forward to returning on my next trip to Connecticut.

Despite it being a roadside seafood joint and bar, had to have reservations to get in. Not their fault though, freakin' C19 and all. Things went smooth, no issues with social distance issues. I was glad to see them doing well in this temporary plague land we live in. We dined on the patio, enjoyed the food, service was prompt, and everyone was well kept and clean that served and cooked.

Best seafood without going to the shore

Food was good. Charged me $30 for a lobster roll. Little pricey. The deck is a nice place to hang out, but if you are looking for seafood, Close Harbour is down the street.

Terrific location, wonderful service. Food was good but not as good as usual. Scallop salad was a "special" but not very. It was not as tasty as I would like. Kind of bland. Another scallop salad person agreed. Not much substance in the clam chowder, only a few potato pieces,,,,,everyone else was happy. Giant shrimp was great, fish & chips excellent.

Not much for atmosphere, but worth the trip. Typical bar type atmosphere. Food was excellent and very reasonable. Waitress was excellent and very fast. I had been craving good old fashioned fish and chips and they delivered. Can't wait to go back and try some of the other items on the menu. Will definitely be going back.

I had a blackened swordfish steak! It was perfectly cooked and mixed veggies were good too. Small place (inside) with almost dozen of TVs. Outdoor seating was available. Service was prompt. Will most probably go back.

Love this place,been coming for years! Little hole in the wall for great seafood,and good social scene, out on deck! I like their rules during covid!!

The waitress/host taking orders was not friendly, pretty much had an attitude. I did take out and this was my first time here. Pretty pricey, shrimp platter (7 pieces) was $14.95 + additional $1.95 to substitute fries for baked potatoe. Food was also unseasoned and bland. Not impressed especially for the price!

The bartender/host was horrible. The only signage on the door asked for us to wear masks. But the bartender rudely suggested that we were supposed to have a reservation to eat. Me and my wife got very sick after eating here.

The first time I went here the waitress was too busy to ask us if we needed anything after she took our order and by busy she was talking to one of the kitchen staff within earshot of our seats so when it was time for the check she was nowhere to be found so we asked the hostess and she was kind enough to get our check and take our payment. Our waitress hadn’t come over to us the entire time but when we were heading out the door she actually assumed we were skipping out on the bill and tried to get us to come back in and pay before we could tell her the hostess took care of it. That experience and the overall experience with the management made sure I will not be going back nor recommending anyone go there. The only thing they had going for them was the food.

I love the chicken wings! Even though its a seafood restaurant. Normally I would never order chicken from a seafood restaurant. But these are AMAZING! (Better than Archie Moores)Tried the lobster stuffed mushrooms. A bit greasy. One piece of lobster does not make a lobster stuffed mushroom 😋. Should just call them what they are. A stuffed mushroom.Fish & chips were superb! Not too greasy. Fish was flakey and cooked to perfection. Ok, the down and dirty of it all...when you walk in, it is more of a bar atmosphere. PLEASE don't let that put you off. Sit down and relax. Order a cocktail and appetizers. The wait staff is SO friendly! You'll experience what I'm trying to explain. Then order some dinner. I promise, you won't be disappointed.

Wow what a hidden gem. This place tucked away just off rt 10 is fantastic. The bartender and wait staff were great. The food came out hot, fast and perfect tasting. The complimentary tarter sauce and cocktail sauce were only made better by my request for a little old bay seasoning. The lobster stuffing mushroom caps, the clams casino and a cup of chili got us started. We complimented those apps with a fried seafood basket and a platter of steamers. Fresh clean seafood led to perfect meal.

Basically was made fun of by staff cause I didn't make a reservation. Was my first and last time there. 0 stars.

The clam special is unbeatable. And the wings taste good. Ask them to cook alittle well done . the garlic wings go down.

This place has THE best seafood!!!! It far outshines any seafood we have had in cape cod or Rhode island. 100% recommend this place. 10 out of 10 stars. This will be our weekly stop for sure. Amazing!!!!!

So fun! Tiki and tents.. small but friendly. Waitress was awesome! and we ate outside.. a real find, that we stumbled onto on our way back up North.And.. the steak sandwich was a beautiful pounded steak.. not roast beef!

Omgeee the food was great!!! I had this Caribbean clam chowder it was really, really good. Then I had the special fried calamari, scallops and shrimp with fries. I will most def good again. Michelle the server was very nice. She make you wanna just buy more.

Holy smokes. From out of town on business, and took a chance on this place and it was absolutely awesome. Great atmosphere with great staff, and the food is amazing. The place has been there for over 20 years, and there's a good reason for it! Even better, plenty of parking.
